ABOUT THE BOOK:
Malfunction Junction is a collection of short stories written by eight local authors with Memphis and the Mid-South area as the theme. The stories are all fictional and vary from romance, to literary, to horror. A mummy escapes the glass pyramid of downtown Memphis in From the Void. A young biochemist student has a run in with a vampire at the Waffle House. Three young kids encounter a strange shape shifting time traveler on the Greenway. A woman finds her old desk at an auction. A man searches for meaning in his medical gift. A young woman finds love with a stranger who has a secret guardian. Another young woman struggles to open her restaurant while her friend seems to undercut her efforts. A mermaid learns a valuable lesson. A newly disabled man learns to push his limits. A lady in traffic strikes a bargain with a demon. A force of nature comes home to a funeral.
The authors in this anthology are all friends who came together to share their stories about their fondness for their region.
ABOUT THE FEATURED AUTHORS :
DANIEL REECE has been writing in and about obscurity for twenty-five years. He has been published in Memphis magazine and two online publications. Daniel primarily writes novel-length fiction across all genres but occasionally dabbles in short form when called upon. He lives in Memphis with his wife and daughter. Danie’s debut novel Knight and Daye is available at Novel, Bookshop.org, and TouchPoint Press.
RIKKI BOYCE has turned from creating award-winning advertising to writing fiction. Contrary to what some believe, that’s a huge leap. While she works towards her big break (she already has a featured story in From a Cat’s View Vol. II), she continues to maintain her book review website at indelible-inc.com
When not homeschooling, fostering, or teaching theatre, RAE HARDING writes every spare moment she can steal. Rae was recently published in 4 Horsemen Publications’ 2021 anthology Teen Angst Mix Tape Vol. 1 and received Honorable Mention in the Malice in Memphis Hit Me With Your Best Shot Contest in 2018. You can catch her on Twitter and Instagram @raehardingbooks or at https://raeharding.wordpress.com/
SUSAN HOPSON is an Indianapolis native who found a second home in Memphis. She enjoys working in Human Resources and has had the opportunity to work on enriching assignments domestically and abroad. Writing romantic short stories and children’s fiction are Susan’s current interests. In her spare time, Susan enjoys spending time with her family, as well as reading and trying out new recipes! She runs all new story ideas by her cat first.
APRIL JONES has written, read, or edited her way through dozens of fictional worlds. She spends her days convincing middleschoolers that ELA is, in fact, worth learning. When she’s not writing, April spends her time traveling, learning new languages, and trying to keep her mischievous cat from eating all of her houseplants. Her debut novel is The Curse Breaker, and you can find her most recent short story in Standing Defiant: Stories in the Last Brigade Universe.
JUSTIN SIEBERT is a high school science teacher, writer, and educational YouTuber in Memphis, TN, where he lives with his wife, Carol, and daughter, Alondra. His short fiction has appeared in The Arcanist and TLDR Press's Beneath Strange Stars anthology. Check out his work at justinmsiebert.com and www.youtube.com/siebertscience
As a Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurse, KATHRYN SKINNER worked for twenty-one years for Methodist Hospitals of Memphis as a Nurse Counselor and Instructor in the School of Nursing and the Department of Nursing Staff Development. She has published 16 articles in the nursing literature. In retirement, she enjoys writing memoirs.
